What is the state bundle?

[The state bundle is the Platinum and Gold edition for the same state bundled together to save you money instead of purchasing individually.  The reason for this is for people who are interested in having both map scales.  The Platinum gives you the concentrated detail and the best detail at the 1:24,000 scale and the Gold gives you more of a general detail overview of the area using the 1:100,000 scale.

Our Platinum Deluxe version gives you both map scales bundled together at no additional charge.]

What is the difference between Map Academy Platinum/Gold and Map Academy 2.0?

[Actually there is a big difference.  Map Academy 2.0 is a basic map viewer program with minimal capabilities, but offers an incredible price for 1:100,000 scale maps at full state coverage.  Map Academy Platinum and Gold feature more capabilities like searching coordinates from a GPS, lat/long or UTM coordinate display, distance tools, symbols and enhanced print functions.  Map Academy 2.0 and Map Academy Gold use the same topographic map (1:100,000 scale), but the Gold has an advantage in features and capabilities.  Map Academy Platinum is a multi-CD set that shares the same application as the Gold, but uses a more detailed topographic map (1:24,000 scale).    The 1:24,000 scale, or 7.5 minute, is a far more detailed map than what the Gold and 2.0 versions have and is the best choice for outdoorsmen looking for a good, detailed map. -Click here for Map Academy comparison chart.

Note: Our Map Academy 2.0 Edition has now been discontinued as it was an older program that is not supported.]

Can I use the maps in other programs and are the printouts copyrighted ?

[Yes, in Map Academy 2.0 you can use the Copy function to Paste a map portion into another program, or you can directly import the map file (JPEG format) into a program that supports JPEG.  Map Academy Platinum and Gold have both a Copy and Export function to insert a map portion into another program.  The map printouts are not copyrighted and are public domain for whatever use you need them for..]

How do I set up my GPS unit for Map Academy?

[The main thing you want to have set with your GPS unit is the Map Datum.  Map Academy is set at the Datum of NAD 27.  Most GPS units come defaulted to WGS 84 or something similar.  To get your coordinates and waypoints exact within Map Academy, it is important to change the setting in your GPS unit to match NAD 27.  You should be able to change this setting in your settings or properties in your GPS unit.  Refer to you manual if necessary.   Make sure you set it to NAD 27 for North America or NAD27 CONUS.

Also, you can change in your GPS unit the Latitude and Longitude coordinates to display the same way as Map Academy.  Map Academy displays Latitude and Longitude in degrees, minutes, seconds (dd mm ss.ss or 47° 32' 22.45").]
